Looking Back at the Life of SIlverback Bwenge

Silverback Bwenge in Jan. 2014Dominant silverback Bwenge, son of historic silverback Titus, has died at age 24, after being wounded in an interaction. Elder female Maggie now leads the group, but its future is unpredictable as Bwenge was its only silverback.




Congo's Kahuzi-Biega Park Site for New Gorilla Program

Dominant Grauer's silverback ChimanukaThe Fossey Fund has begun field work in the Congo's Kahuzi-Biega Park, observing a habituated group of Grauer's gorillas. This is the Fund's third location for long-term gorilla research and conservation. Initial research and training have gone well.
