Michael I. Crowther
Michael I. Crowther is president and CEO of the Indianapolis Zoological Society. He believes that accredited zoos and aquariums play a vital role in building connections between humans and nature, resulting in an increase in caring, sustainability, and conservation action. As a part of this strategy, Crowther and his team developed the Indianapolis Prize, now the world’s leading award for animal conservation.
Crowther is a member of the boards of the International Species Identification System (ISIS), the National Elephant Center, the Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association, and the Downtown Indianapolis Streetcar Corporation.
He is a graduate of Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and a graduate fellow of Leadership New Jersey. He has traveled extensively in Africa, including multiple trips to South Africa, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Botswana, and Namibia.
