Gary G. Strieker
Gary Strieker is executive director and senior producer for Environment News Trust, a non-profit company producing news reports and feature programming on environmental issues for U.S. and international broadcasters and websites. Earlier, he was CNN’s global environmental correspondent, focusing on endangered species and threatened habitats, especially in developing nations.
He produced the “Our Planet” series and several half-hour special programs. His work earned the National Press Club’s top prize for environmental reporting. He also served as CNN’s Nairobi bureau chief for 11 years. He was one of the few reporters to cover Rwanda’s civil war and genocide from the front lines, and won an Emmy award for his coverage of the crisis in Somalia in 1992.
Before becoming a journalist, Streiker was a vice president of Citibank in its Nairobi office and an international legal advisor to the government of Swaziland. He first came to Africa as a volunteer lawyer with the U.S. Peace Corps. He earned a law degree from the University of California.
