Kathryn Fawcett, Ph.D.

Kathryn "Katie" Fawcett heads Karisoke™’s research, protection and education programs, guiding a wide range of studies of mountain gorillas and other species. Managing community health and education programs, and administering a staff of over 100, Dr. Fawcett has 10+ years of research and work experience in Africa, Asia and Europe.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology and a Ph.D. from Edinburgh University (UK) with extensive research on chimpanzee behavioral ecology, and is an honorary research fellow for the University of Stirling (UK).
