Andy Serkis was born in London and spent much of his childhood in the Middle East. After studying visual arts at Lancaster University in England he became involved in theater. He has been a professional actor since 1985, when he began to appear in a host of popular plays and on almost every renowned British stage, including the Royal Exchange Theater in Manchester, England and the Royal Court Theater in London. Serkis won awards for his role creating movement, facial expressions and voice for the computer-generated character Gollum in “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” in 2003. He used the same techniques as Kong in “King Kong” (2005), winning a Toronto Film Critics Award. He also continued with traditional acting in many leading and supporting roles on stage and on television. He lives in North London, England.
