Leadership

Ivan AmanigaRuhanga is a specialist in Environment and Natural Resources management and plays a critical role connecting conservation to business through education and initiating community projects. He is a holder of a Master of Science Degree in Environment and Natural Resources. He was worked for renown conservation organizations such as World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Uganda Wildlife Society, Sustainability Research Institute (UK), and the Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment (ACODE).  In his 14 years of progressive conservation experience in East and Southern Africa, Ivan has coordinated regional programs across 8 countries, published widely in the areas of wildlife conservation, collaborative forest management approaches, and social development in general. He has worked in Uganda, Ghana, Zambia, Kenya, Tanzania, DRC, Madagascar and Mozambique on the nexus between nature conservation, environmental management and human development. Mr. AmanigaRuhanga has led international teams of researchers and accumulated a wealth of experience in process facilitation, policy research and analysis, advocacy and institutional development. He has played both managerial and leadership roles in his professional career.

As regional community engagement manager, Amani oversees the Fossey Fund’s community projects in both Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He develops and manages projects that link education and livelihood initiatives to improved gorilla conservation in Rwanda, and works to increase the capacity of local communities to manage community-run conservation areas in DRC.
