Chief Advancement Officer
Shari Henning serves as Chief Advancement Officer for the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. In this role, she is responsible for the development, planning, management and evaluation of all advancement programs supporting fundraising and communications initiatives. Shari will also build into an expanded role to include aiding with organizational planning, staff and board development, and strengthening financial and governance processes and procedures.
Prior to joining the Fossey Fund, she was the Chief Development Officer for Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, responsible for a visionary, multi-year fundraising strategy in alignment with Atlanta Habitat’s strategic plan, neighborhood revitalization focus, and its expansion to south Fulton.
With over 20 years in the nonprofit world, Shari spent much of her career with the American Cancer Society, serving most recently as Executive Vice President for the South Atlantic Division of the American Cancer Society, based in Atlanta. She was the division’s most-senior staff executive, driving development and implementation of the Society’s mission and income strategies across the division, while engaging corporate executives, high-level donors, and leadership volunteers in furthering the fight against cancer.
Shari has an accounting degree from Rockford University and began her career as a senior staff accountant for Rockford Memorial Hospital, a major health system in northern Illinois.
