Baobab Partners with Fossey Fund

New Travel Partnership Between The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International and Baobab Expeditions

Baobab Expeditions is proud to announce its distinct travel partnership with The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International. This relationship sets precedence in combining eco-tourism and wildlife conservation as a means to support the survival of endangered species. A portion of each unique journey booked through Baobab goes directly towards DFGFI and their efforts to monitor, protect, and support gorillas as well as educate and aid local communities. Travelers automatically become members of DFGFI and adopt a mountain gorilla.

Travel with Baobab Expeditions and journey through Rwanda in search of Dian Fossey's mountain gorillas. Meet these beloved creatures face to face, and in doing so, give back to the preservation of their habitat. Travelers will visit Fossey's former research center and her grave, located next to that of Digit, her favorite gorilla. On select expeditions, travelers will have the rare opportunity to meet Karisoke Research Center staff and learn more about their day to day activities.

Baobab Expeditions promotes tourism as an economic engine, enabling us to experience a wild and free Africa. Support through travel is a direct channel for lending a hand and by visiting the homes of endangered species and local communities, travelers acknowledge the importance of their well being and draw awareness to their plight. Baobab promotes environmental protection, conservation, and the utilization of local tourism resources. The Baobab philosophy is encapsulated by three key principles: care of the wildlife, care of the people, care of the land.

Baobab's unique, exploratory approach to expeditions through Africa and its conviction to support both wildlife conservation and community organizations is a key reason for the distinguished selection by DFGFI.

The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International is dedicated to the conservation and protection of gorillas and their habitats in Africa, through research, conservation action, education and partnerships. Founded by Dian Fossey as the Digit Fund and renamed after her death, DFGFI operates the Karisoke Research Center in Rwanda, and maintains a staff of scientists, trackers and anti-poaching patrols in the Volcanoes National Park. DFGFI also operates a conservation action outreach plan, working in conjunction with innovative community-based preserves in the Democratic Republic of Congo, helping to re-establish Congo's Maiko National Park, and participating in other critical conservation and community projects.
