Shannon McFarlin, Ph.D.

Dr. Shannon McFarlin is an evolutionary primatologist, with expertise in primate biology and evolution, behavioral ecology, and biological anthropology. Her research interests lie in understanding the factors that shape variation in the life course of humans and other primates, particularly great apes, including features of their growth, development, and aging. Over the last 15 years, a major focus of her research has been on mountain gorillas. As Science Director of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, she works with a team of other researchers to coordinate scientific research and training activities across the Fossey Fund’s gorilla and biodiversity program areas.
