As we celebrate women’s history month and the International Women’s Day in March, the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund is proud to be able to highlight not only our unique history of female scientists and leadership, but also our many programs that aim to empower the women of the future. From scientists to students to women in the communities where we work, the Fossey Fund has prioritized opportunities for women to participate, advance and thrive.
We know that conservation will benefit enormously too, as more and more women are empowered. That’s why the Fossey Fund has programs like “Girls in Conservation” and community food and livelihoods programs, in addition to supporting more women to become scientists, research assistants, trackers and leaders within our organization and beyond.
“Our initiatives to support women are a wonderful way that we can extend Dian Fossey’s legacy and promote gender equity both within and outside our organization. This not only helps improve the lives of women and their families but research clearly shows that participation of women enhances conservation outcomes,” says Dr. Tara Stoinski, Fossey Fund president and CEO/chief scientific officer.
