Helping People. Saving Gorillas.
The Fossey Fund has studied gorilla individuals and groups up close for so long that we know a lot about gorillas personalities! They have a wide range of behaviors, just like us.
Checking on everyone, making sure everyone is where they’re supposed to be
Trying to get a nap in before the juveniles come to pester you
Foraging quietly alongside the group
Playing energetically with your friends
Announce yourself with a loud hoot of your own
Find someone bigger and stronger and wait for the all clear
Stride after the silverback to help if there’s trouble
Make sure your family is aware of the possible danger
Your friends
Everyone tends to gravitate towards me
You prefer to hang out solo
The silverback
Leader
Follower
Enforcer
Clown
Other gorillas
Poachers
Snares
Losing your family
Wherever your family is
Rwanda, Bisoke
Rwanda, Karisimbi
You like to roam all over
Give them a warning
Nothing, you let it go
Run at them and scream your displeasure
Jump on them and turn it into a playing match
A ways off from the group. You like your privacy
Huddled up with mom
Near the silverback, just in case there’s trouble
In the middle of everyone, to keep an eye on them
Large and in charge
Quiet but fierce
Firm but caring
Mischievous and playful
