You may know Giving Tuesday as the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, but in response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19, a new Giving Tuesday Now initiative has been created! This emergency-response Giving Tuesday will be on May 5th, which is this upcoming Tuesday.
2) Why is this new GT Now important?Â
This new Giving Tuesday Now initiative is important because so many nonprofit organizations around the world are being drastically affected by COVID-19 and are in need of your help to support their work!
3) Covid 19 impact on Fossey Fund
COVID 19 has impacted our procedures in the field—for example, our staff are now working in rotations where they are isolated from the larger community to minimize any risk of exposure. They wear masks and have daily health checks. Our work in local communities has been paused, although we are still able to check in on these projects through phone calls. We also have had increases in our expenses—from buying needed equipment to increases in food costs.
4) How will donating impact or work and directly help our teams
COVID 19 has shown us that conservation work is more important than ever—as forests are destroyed, humans and animals come into contact and diseases can cross over causing pandemics like we are seeing today. Donating will help ensure our teams can remain in the forest 365 days per year, no matter what, protecting gorillas and their forest homes.
5) How can you get involved? Â
The most impactful way you can be involved is through a donation! Any amount can make a difference to our trackers and the protection we provide the gorillas. And between now and May 5th, all donations will be matched up to $20,000. That means your gift will go twice as far to help our critical work to protect gorillas and their forest homes.
